Virtual Birth Doula Support Package
Doulas have traditionally been known for our hands-on, in-person, emotional, informational and physical support. However, long before the COVID-19 pandemic, many of us have been supporting clients virtually through the use of technology. Virtual doula services are often the only option for families living in rural areas, while other families intentionally seek out virtual services in order to minimize the number of people in their birthing space. It is with full confidence that I can assure our clients that our support will be just as intentional, valuable and important as it has always been.

The Details...
Prenatal Visits: A trusting relationship is the foundation of doula care. The prenatal visits are focused on getting to know one another, providing evidenced based information and education, learning more about your birth preferences, and preparing you and your partner for what to expect when arriving at the hospital. We will discuss the importance of body posture and positioning and practice a number of comfort measures, positioning techniques, and prenatal exercises that will encourage optimal fetal positioning. We will discuss positive strategies for navigating different scenarios you may be faced with in the hospital setting.
Unlimited Phone, Email & Text Support: Your birth doula will be available to support you by phone from the moment you sign your contract. The peace of mind of knowing that a compassionate and knowledgable person is just a phone call away is simple, yet profound.
On-Call Support: Your birth doula will be on-call 24x7 to support you from 38 weeks until the birth of your baby. If there is reason to believe that you might deliver before 38 weeks, we can easily make arrangements for on-call services to begin earlier at no additional charge.
Back-Up Support: Contracting with The Joyful Tribe means that you are not only enlisting the support of your primary doula, but a team of back-up doulas as well. Our doulas generally take 2 to 3 clients per month which means that schedule conflicts are rare, however situations may arise that make it impossible for your doula to respond or join you at home/hospital when you need her. Knowing that there are back-ups if the need arises is a wonderful benefit to working with a collaborative group!
In-Home Labor Support: Many women wish to labor in the comfort of their own home for as long as possible. The goal in the home environment is to normalize the labor process and keep things calm and peaceful. Your birth doula will provide labor progression and comfort measure suggestions and help you determine when it’s time to transition to the hospital. Whether this support is provided in-person or over the phone, your doula will help you navigate this phase of labor and maximize your time at home.
Continuous Labor & Birth Support at The Hospital: Whether transitioning with you from home to hospital or joining you there in person or virtually, your birth doula will remain by your side at the hospital throughout your labor and delivery. Based on your preferences, she will assist in a variety of ways including providing informational support and physical comfort measures, or instructing the partner on proper hand placement if providing virtual support, as well as providing mental and emotional encouragement, labor progression techniques, effective positioning, etc. She will also provide emotional support for your partner, as well as help you and your partner advocate for your labor and birth preferences.
Immediate Postpartum Support: Your birth doula will remain at the hospital for 1-2 hours after the birth of your baby to assist with breastfeeding, encourage family bonding, and rejoice in the miracle of your new baby as long as the facility permits her continued presence.
Postpartum Home Visit: This visit is generally 1-2 weeks postpartum, but the timing is completely up to you. The purpose is to offer transitional support, focused on integrating the birth experience. Research shows that having the opportunity to reflect on and process the labor and birth journey has an enormous impact on a mother's sense of well-being, how well she bonds with her baby, and how she feels about facing future births. Your birth doula will also assist with breastfeeding and newborn care questions and anything else that's on your mind.
