At The Joyful Tribe we are committed to coming alongside women and their families in Southern Kentucky and surrounding counties during their pregnancy, labor, birth, and beyond. We believe that with the appropriate education, doula support, and mindset, the transition into early parenthood can be one of the most magical and rewarding times of a woman's life. We strive to ensure that our clients have the tools they need to make informed decisions in order to navigate their way through this journey. Our ultimate goal is to ensure that each of our moms feels heard, confident, and cared for in order that she may have a more intimate and connected birth, nursing, and bonding experience.  Our passion is to be present for women and their partners during a time that is innately intimate and profound. It is an honor to be trusted to share in this sacred experience, and a joy to witness the birth of not only a new baby but a new family.

“Kind words can be short and easy to speak,
but their echoes are truly endless.”

"Jen attended the home birth of our son and we are so fortunate to have had her there!  It felt like having a friend we had known for years with us!  She was at our pre-natal visits, provided post-partum care and placenta encapsulation!  She did ALL of these things with the utmost care and compassion.  Her deep knowledge and experience with birth and infant care was so comforting and reassuring."  - The Reschke's

"Jen's calming nature and perfect suggestions helped me through all the contractions and pushing during the birth; I remember her voice so clearly and it being so helpful.  She was tireless and enthusiastic the whole time; an impressive feat considering she arrived at 4am!! As   first time parents, it was amazing to have Jen come as a postpartum doula as well.  Just having her there for a few hours after the rest of the midwifery team left was so reassuring and then she came back later and helped us with so many practical things like carseat use, Moby wrap use, tips for washing baby.  She shows so much care and love for the baby." -Erin

"Jen stayed by my side from the moment she met us at my house until my baby was born. What I loved most about Jen was that she ensured my desires for my birth plan were being met in every way - I wanted to labor at home as much as possible, and I wanted my husband Jeff to be very involved (after all, we took 12 weeks of birth classes together!). During my home laboring, Jeff was busy getting our tub filled, car packed, getting me food and water, while Jen was rubbing my back and coaching me through breathing. I feel like the extra set of hands is a MUST when you are laboring. I had the unmedicated birth I desired and I don't think it would have been the amazing experience it was without Jen. She is knowledgeable about the birth process, breathing (important during labor!), and very respectful of birth plans. She's simply amazing!! We loved her and are still friends to this day!" -Samantha
"Jen was a lifesaver for the birth of my second child. I had a traumatic birth experience with my son and I was honestly freaking out about the birth of my daughter. Before Jen became my doula I was facing the possibility of being in the delivery room by myself because I wasn't sure if my husband was going to be able to be there. Jen has such a calming presence, and is so knowledgeable that after our first meeting so many of the fears and questions running through my mind were calmed and answered. I knew that whatever happened that I was not going to be alone. Jen used her experience and knowledge to help me make the decisions about labor that I didn't even know were decisions or choices I could make. She presented all options unbiasedly and never once pressured me into doing things any way other than how I wanted. When I spoke I always felt heard, which was something I had never felt with the birth of my son. I am most likely done having children, but if I ever do find myself pregnant again I will definitely be asking her to be present for that birth as well. If you are looking for a doula I would without hesitation recommend Jen to make your birthing experience a close to what you envision as possible." - Laurel

"Jen Cowell at the Joyful Tribe was my doula for all three of my daughters (2005, 2009, 2013). She lovingly and compassionately used her expert knowledge to guide myself and my husband through our births. Jen is great at reading a mother’s verbal and nonverbal cues, and has so many great ideas to offer. I would without reservation recommend her to any mama looking for support in order to make their birthing experience joyful and positively memorable." - Jessica

"I am so thankful I had Jen by my side before I had my baby and after!  She made me believe in myself and gave me the confidence I needed when I felt like there was no way I could make it all the way through my birth.  I knew I didn't want to have an epidural with my last baby but was so scared!  She helped me through the pain and made me laugh when I needed to find the joy in the moment.  She was 100% dedicated to me and made me feel secure!  When the baby was finally here she was there to help me with whatever I needed, even changed my baby's diaper for me when I was too exhausted!  Jen's love for helping others just shines in all she does, and the love she has for all babies is such a beautiful thing!" -Mandie

"My wife's desire was a natural childbirth and we took 12 Bradley Method classes to prepare for this. Although we felt confident as a couple, in the end having Jen as our doula was wonderful. She was extremely helpful with coping mechanisms for my wife's intense labor process. Jen provided a calming and knowledgeable environment thoughout the experience. I would highly recommend her!" -Jeff

"Jen was my doula for my first birth in 2017. She was amazing. She has a calming presence and is very experienced! She knew exactly what I needed and when. She kept me motivated & focused when I was going though my intense natural birth and she let my husband lead the way as my coach when he was able. Jen is an all-around incredible person and I would definitely recommend her as a doula!" -Sam
